I really loved this book at some points, but at other times I was genuinely DYING from secondhand embarrassment. 😭 Like I would have to put the book down for a second, recover, and then convince myself to keep reading because GIRL WHAT ARE YOU DOING???
It was SO close to being a five-star read for me. I really liked the romance, the characters were fun, and overall it was exactly the kind of YA romance that’s really easy to get invested in. There were so many cute moments that had me smiling, and then approximately five minutes later something would happen that made me want to hide behind the book from secondhand embarrassment. 😭
And then we need to discuss the band-aid scene.
I’m so sorry. I just CAN’T. 😭✋️ I know it was supposed to be cute, but I physically could not handle it. That scene alone might be responsible for the missing half star LMAO.
ALSO WHY DIDN’T HE JUST TELL HER THE TRUTH??? Like buddy. Please. I am begging you. 😭 So many problems could have been avoided if he had just opened his mouth and EXPLAINED. It was one of those situations where I’m reading and practically trying to communicate telepathically with the character like, “JUST TELL HER???? IT’S SO EASY????”
But apparently communication would have made the book significantly shorter. 😭
Even with those moments, though, I had such a good time reading this. I was invested enough that the embarrassing parts didn’t make me want to stop, and there were way more moments that I loved than ones that made me question what I was reading.
It’s definitely one I would recommend, especially if you like cute YA romance and can survive a little secondhand embarrassment along the way.
Four and a half stars because I loved it, but the band-aid scene will unfortunately be living in my head against my will. 😭✋️
