I have no desire to live in Quentis.” “Wh-what?” I leaned away. “You are mine.” His hands dove into my hair, fingers threading through my curls. “Even if we are kingdoms apart, you are mine. But I’d rather not be a kingdom apart.”
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ PERIOD.
The Guardian/Ransom was like AHHHHH. So good. I CAN’T. 😭✋️
I genuinely loved this book SO much. I went into it hoping for a good fantasy, and somehow I came out of it completely obsessed with the characters, the romance, and basically everything about this story.
First of all, THE SLOW BURN. It was done SO WELL. They didn’t confess until like 100 pages before the end, and normally I would be losing my mind waiting that long, but the tension made it completely worth it. Every little interaction between Odessa and Ransom had me waiting for SOMETHING to happen. Like please just admit you like each other already??? 😭
And Ransom??? At the beginning, I was genuinely suspicious because there was NO WAY this man could be this good. I kept thinking, “The Guardian can’t be this perfect. Something HAS to be wrong with him.” So obviously, I spent half the book waiting for the red flag.
AND THERE WASN’T ONE. 😭
Like excuse me??? Protective, actually cares about her, AND no horrible plot twist where we find out he’s secretly awful?? THANK YOU.
Odessa was also such a queen. I loved that she wasn’t one of those characters who suddenly becomes helpless whenever something goes wrong. She keeps going no matter what gets thrown at her, and I loved watching her grow throughout the story. AND HER LITTLE PET??? SO CUTE. 🥹 I was emotionally attached immediately.
I also really liked the fantasy side of the book. The world and story were interesting enough that I wasn’t just reading for the romance which is saying something because obviously I was VERY invested in Odessa and Ransom. The romance added to the story instead of completely taking it over, and the slow burn made every little moment between them hit so much harder.
By the end, I was completely obsessed. I loved the characters, I loved the tension, I loved the fantasy, and most importantly, RANSOM PASSED THE RED FLAG INVESTIGATION. 😭✋️
This might genuinely be my new favorite fantasy book.
Five stars. No notes. I need more immediately.
