I really enjoyed this book! I don’t normally reach for biographies or memoirs, so I honestly wasn’t sure how much I was going to like this one, but it kept me interested the entire time.
One of the things I liked most was how honest Jennette McCurdy was about her life and her relationship with her mom. Nothing felt sugarcoated, and as the book went on, you could really see how so many of the problems she struggled with later in life all went back to the way she was raised. There were so many moments where I was just sitting there thinking, how was this allowed to happen and why did no one do anything????
Even though the book deals with some really heavy topics, I found it surprisingly easy to read. Jennette’s writing style made it feel like she was just telling you her story rather than making it feel like a super serious biography, which I really liked.
And honestly… by the end, I was glad her mom died too 😭. The title sounds CRAZY until you actually read the book, and then you completely understand why she chose it.
Definitely not my usual type of book, but I’m really glad I picked it up! It honestly made me want to give more memoirs a chance.
