I really loved this book so much!
I’m such a fan of retellings, especially *Beauty and the Beast*, and this story was so well done while still feeling different and unique. I especially loved how it showed the challenges of escaping an abusive marriage in the past. It really highlighted how difficult it was for a woman to escape an abusive husband when no one believed her simply because she was a woman.
I’m also really glad the author made her healing journey feel realistic. Just because you find someone who genuinely cares about you doesn’t mean you can suddenly forget everything you’ve been through and go right back to normal. I loved that she didn’t go from 0 to 100 overnight. What happened to her during her marriage didn’t just disappear, and she wasn’t suddenly the same person she was before. Her trauma was still there, and I really appreciated how the book showed that healing takes time.
Also, Zane..... YESSSSS!!!!! The man never stopped trying to get her away from Orson, AND he left her favourite macaroons every single day! Dare I say more?
